What Are Essential Oils?

Essential oils are the highly concentrated version of the natural oils found in plants.  The oils are extracted with a process called distillation or cold pressed.  After distillation, the outcome is a highly concentrated portion of essential oil, which will have the characteristic fragrance and properties of the plant from which it was extracted, and contain the true essence of the plant it came from. This includes the smell, but most importantly the plant’s restorative properties for human use and other plant characteristics.

Essential Oils are..

  • Extracted from plants (leaves, stems, flowers, bark, roots, and occasionally other parts of the plants)
  • Typically steam distilled or cold pressed
  • Not the same as perfume or fragrance oils
  • Often clear or pale in color; occasionally amber or yellow in color.

Why Use the Term “Practitioner Grade” instead of “Therapeutic Grade”?

  • There is currently no regulating authority for Essential Oils
  • Each company determines their own quality and definitions
  • No standard or parameters of “Therapeutic Essential Oils”
  • Only labeling requirements from the FDA as most are considered cosmetics
  • So we chose to use the term Therapeutic Grade as our essential oils are a higher concentration that many other essential oils resulting in using less oil to achieve the same or better results as well as formulated by a Doctor of Traditional Naturopathy.
